Great Lengths short film
You’ve been warned: This isn’t your average music video. At the beginning of this year, Martyn worked with director Ramón Gieling and Keydocs on this heartbreakingly gorgeous short film, which presents a Fellini-esque interpretation of the 2003 death of Martyn’s father, pro footballer Gerrie Deijkers. Black-and-white footage accompanied by Great Lengths album cut “Bridge” portrays Martyn reenacting the event of Deijkers’ heart attack in a dreamy setting on a snow-covered field before the director gradually cuts to a representation of what might follow the tragic happening: a colorful-but-bittersweet celebration soundtracked by the upbeat “Right?Star!” number and the original version of “Brilliant Orange”. [from XLR8R.com] The short film so far has been featured on several film festivals across Europe, in Bilbao & Ourense (Spain), Utrecht (Nederlands Film Festival, The Netherlands) and in Italy.
